Our certified ASTM A743 CF8M (AISI 316) stainless steel wine piston pumps, with output flow from 13 to 120 m3/h, can be fitted, on Client's request, with Variable Frequency Drive for continuous output flow adjustment, hydraulic flow inverter actuator, safe radio remote control, or can be placed upon a road tanker, even with their own diesel engine.

Tabanelli Brothers Wine Piston Pumps: Aimed For Excellence

Wine piston pumps had been used in wineries from the end of 1800's: at the beginning as a manually actuated single-acting single piston, they evolved to the double-acting twin cylinder three-phase electric motor actuated machinery we are used to seeing nowadays in every winery or distillery.The main reasons for the success and longevity of this pumping technology essentially owing to the robustness (a well-crafted wine piston pump can easily works flawlessly for thirty years at least) and versatility (self-priming from 8-9 meters depth , can handle abrasive, hot, viscous fluids, light muds, oils, destemmed and crushed grapes, dregs and sludges).

Wine piston pumps manufactured by Tabanelli Brothers (www.tabanelli.eu), set them apart from competitors because they are the only ones with the motor lengthwise-arranged to the pump: this because, in the gearbox, the transformation from rotary motion (motor, drive pulley) to reciprocating motion (pistons) is made by a "Gleason" coupled gears pair (a bevel pinion and a ring gear, as in a differential assembly for vehicles) made of hardened steel, with bevel scroll toothing. This smart solution, thus being more expensive and more demanding in terms of technical skill for the manufacturer, leads to great benefits to users: particularly silent running, long-lasting work life (this why two years warranty), great load capacity (more teeth meshed at all times for smoother force transmission). Lengthwise-arranged power drive is a benefit itself, allowing for example an easy placement of a Tabanelli's wine piston pump upon road tankers, with its own diesel or hydraulic engine, as well as activated by a secondary driveshaft from the truck's power take-off. Another piece of fine applied mechanics that sets apart Tabanelli's wine piston pumps, is the exclusive use of taper roller bearings within the gearbox, when many competitors use simply bushings instead, a lot more cheaper, but prone to a lot of friction and wear.

As a result of long years of study and field experience, the modular pump body of Tabanelli's wine piston pumps, is composed by the cylinders group and by a pair of valves boxes, made by certified ASTM A743 CF8M stainless steel casting(ndr: improperly called AISI 316 , using an old standard specific to rods, sheets, welded tubes and pipes...), connected by mean of optimum shape designed manifolds, lead to these advantages:

  • better surface finishing and lack of stainless steel casting's failures (shrinkages, cracks, cavities), that may cause problems during the working life of the pump;

  • better backing to replaceable cylinders's sleeves, press inserted, without any “o-ring” seal, thanks to the true cylinders group's “monolithic” design (leak-proof and long-duration guarantee even with high working pressure / temperature);

  • high compression ratio and optimized fluid dynamics inside the pump body (stunning pumping performance even with viscous, hot or with high levels of gas dissolved liquids, minimum amount of transferred fluid shaking);

  • effective counteracting of the reciprocating pressures, common oddity of wine piston pumps (completely overrided by the optimized inside-shape designed pulsation dampeners, located right upon pump's suction / delivery pipes);

  • complete on-site maintainability, whithout lifts, hoists, jacks or extra workers need (low maintenance costs);

The forty and more years of experience in the field, have been spent in order to keep improving our particular wine piston pumps's performances and dependability, and they were well awarded in 2003 by the achievement of the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Certification, a well deserved acknowledgement for a company always willing to fulfill their customers's needs, with the accuracy, carefulness of work and the passion of truly craftsmen.
